CLEVELAND — Week #7 of FOX 8’s Friday Night Touchdown featured another great Game of the Week, along with a rare battle of unbeatens and more offensive explosions, with 15 teams scoring 50 points or more.

The Game of the Week was a grudge match in the Principals Athletic Conference. Indian Valley (6-0) came in undefeated and ranked #8 in the Division IV AP Poll, while Manchester’s (5-1) only loss was a 49-48 setback at Fairless in 3 OTs. The Panthers entered the game ranked #11 in Division V, but they could be climbing after an impressive 28-14 win at James France Stadium.

Manchester’s stout run defense contained the Braves’ vaunted rushing offense, while Austin Klein carried the load for the Panthers’ offense. The win moves Manchester into a three-way tie atop the PAC standings with three games remaining.  Indian River’s schedule does not get any easier. The Braves stay on the road next Friday with another tough test, at Triway (5-2), followed by a home date with Fairless (6-1).

SkyFox flew over Week #7’s other clash of the titans, a battle of unbeatens between the top-ranked team in Division II, Massillon (6-0) against the 4th ranked team in Division I, Austintown-Fitch (6-0).  The Falcons jumped out to an early lead on their home field, 21-7, before the Tigers’ Freshman phenom QB Danny Clark got going.  Fitch led 30-14 in the final six minutes, before Massillon scored two quick touchdowns to cut the lead to 30-27. The Tigers marched all the way down to the Falcons’ five yard line and appeared to score the game-winning touchdown, only to have it called back for a penalty. Then on the final play of the game, Clark could not find anyone to throw to and the Fitch defense game up with one last stop to clinch the huge win, 30-27 and protect their perfect record. Austintown-Fitch will be a heavy favorite in its final three games, while Massillon’s grueling schedule continues, with a home date against the top team in Division III, St. Vincent-St. Mary (7-0), before the annual season-ending showdown with Stark County rival, Canton McKinley (6-0).

The other big storyline in Week #7 was the offense explosions. 15 teams across Northeast Ohio scored at least 50 points, with two teams piling up 70 points or more.

Bedford (6-1) continued its resurgence by scoring 71 in a win over Shaw, while Marlington (6-1) won its sixth straight game, 74-32 over Salem, following a season-opening setback at still unbeaten Poland (7-0).

Kirtland (7-0) continued its historic winning streak, crushing Fairport Harding 66-0, for its 42nd consecutive regular season victory. The Hornets can make it 43 straight next week at Berkshire (3-4).

Columbia (7-0) remained undefeated, despite losing star QB Jay Banyasz to a high ankle sprain in the second half of a 35-10 win over Oberlin. His condition will be evaluated over the weekend, but with the Raiders sitting atop the Region 16 Playoff standings, there’s no need to rush Banyasz back.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights (6-1) took command of the Southwestern Conference with a huge 24-14 win on the road at Avon Lake (5-2). The victory also moved the Bees just percentage points behind Willoughby South (6-1) for first place in the Region 3 Playoff race.

But perhaps the game of the night was played at Westlake (4-3), where the Demons traded touchdown for touchdown with a game Rocky River (3-4) team, all night long. In the end, Westlake emerged one point better than the Pirates, thanks to a key two-point conversion that gave the Demons a heart-stopping 56-55 win.
