SHEFFIELD, Ohio — A local school district is joining thousands of schools across the world for International Walk to School Day.

More than 1,200 Sheffield-Sheffield Lake students will participate in Walk to School Day beginning Wednesday, October 9, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The event will begin at Volunteer Field on Oster Road, and end at Sheffield Middle School and Knollwood Elementary.

As a safety precaution, school staff, parents and local law enforcement will be on hand to escort students to school. Every student who participates will also be entered into a drawing to win one of 28 $300 gift cards to a local bike shop.

In the U.S. alone, more than 3,000 schools will participate in this year’s Walk to School Day.
