CHAGRIN FALLS – Something unpredicted threatened to keep a local couple from saying “I do” this weekend. Thanks to a plea on social media, the wedding will go on.

News of the fire at Jekyll’s Kitchen, spread almost as fast as the flames that badly damaged the popular Chagrin Falls restaurant, Wednesday morning.

Shelly Marks was one of the restaurant's regular patrons, and learned of the fire from a text message.

Marks said her first thoughts were, “shock, just shock."

Jekyll’s is a popular place for private parties, and weddings. It was to be the place for Marks and Neal Siegel to hold their wedding reception this Sunday.

“Brides think of everything that could go wrong. They think of bad weather; they think of getting sick, not looking good, a bad hair day. You never think that your venue is going to burn down,” Marks said.

Not knowing what else to do, Marks turned to her Facebook page.

Marks wrote, "Oh my gosh, my wedding is supposed to be here in four days, what do I do?"

Her plea for a new place to hold their wedding reception was answered.

"Some friends offered their homes. They offered to call venues for us, country clubs. Beechmont Country Club called us and offered to completely remake our wedding,” Marks added.

Fire threatened to destroy one of the most memorable days of their lives. Thanks to a change of venue, the wedding is still on.

"It was a tragedy on one end, but I am still getting to marry the man of my dreams. On Sunday, I will become Mrs. Neal W. Siegel," Marks said, smiling.
