Playoff Potential: Tribe Fans Getting Hands on Tickets
CLEVELAND–Only one week left in the season and the Cleveland Indians are in a wild card position.
For the first time in six years, Tribe fans got to buy a playoff ticket.
“I have four tickets to a potential of nine games. So, that’s 36 tickets,” said Ric Selby, of Painesville, a long-time season ticket holder.
The Indians just swept a four-game series from the Houston Astros, lifting them past the Texas Rangers for the second American League wild card spot.
Selby was one of thousands of fans who scooped up tickets for the potential Wild Card game, American League Division Series, and yes, even the World Series Monday.
“There’s a potential wildcard game, then there’s the division series that could be potentially two games, the American Championship series, which could be three games, or the World Series, which is four games. There’s a potential of nine home games. And if they make it that far, I have a seat for all of them,” said Selby.
Tickets went on sale to the general public Monday at 10:00 a.m.
“Ticket sales have been brisk since they went on sale at 10 a.m. But great seats are still remaining for all wildcard and division series,” said Curtis Danburg, Indians spokesperson.
Remaining tickets will be sold online, at Progressive Field, or the Indians team shop Tuesday.
Fans are noticing.
Attendance has been down this year but with the Tribe just a week away from their first playoff berth since 2007, fans packed the ballpark over the weekend.
“Everyone is excited. This is what we work for. To play in October,” added Danburg.
The final home series of the season starts Tuesday against the White Sox so you have two more times to cheer on your team at home.
“We’re right where the fans want them to be. There’s a week left in the season and I just bought playoff tickets,” said Selby,
The Indians will finish the season in Minnesota.
If they make the wild card game, the game be Wednesday, October 2.
