AKRON, Ohio — Local residents interested in making fishing more than a hobby can do so at a special workshop.

The ‘Passport to Fishing’ instructor workshop is scheduled to be held Thursday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wildlife District Three in Akron.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources hosts the workshop, which allows attendees to become certified ‘Passport to Fishing’ instructors, help students learn about the outdoors and provide resources for grants, equipment and other training.

Students will also learn fishing basics, how to run a four-station fishing program with a fishing event and training aids to teach young fishing beginners.

The workshop is free to attend, but registration is required. All attendees will also be required to submit to a background check.

For more information about the program or to register, call the Division of Wildlife at 330-245-3030 or click here.
