CLEVELAND– The Indians bounced back from their Sunday loss to the Mets by beating the Royals 4-3 on Monday night behind the pitching of Ubaldo Jimenez.

The Big U struck out 10 batters over seven innings on the hill and allowed one run to get the win. He walked no one.

The Tribe staked itself to a 3-0 lead thanks to a second inning solo homer from Asdrubal Cabrera; a 3rd inning ground out by Drew Stubbs and a solo homer from Yan Gomes in the 5th.

The Royals made it a 3-1 game in the sixth when Eric Hosmer hit a solo homer, but Carlos Santana answered in the 7th inning by poking a solo shot off the foul pole in right.

The Royals got within one run in the 8th inning when Alex Gordon took Cody Allen deep with a 2-run homer.

In the ninth, Chris Perez loaded the bases but ended the game by inducing Gordon to pop out for the final out.

The Indians won their 77th game of the year against 66 losses.

Game two of the series is Tuesday night at Progressive Field.
