BROOKLYN, Ohio -- St. Thomas More School in Brooklyn prides itself on providing the finest Catholic education.
Being named this week’s Fox 8 Cool School is the latest accomplishment for the school. The school philosophy is built on worship, service and academics.
Every Friday morning, the students go to church as a school and pray together.
"The only reason St. Thomas More exists is because of our beliefs and God's teachings," 6th grader Makaila Astronskas said.
God’s teachings are shown by example and the students’ willingness to do good.
“For service we have canned food drives every Thanksgiving and we have service to the troops in Afghanistan, we always send them letters," 7th grader Sara Fessler added.
The students’ path to becoming lifelong learners begins in preschool, where as 4-year-olds they learn more than singing songs. And, these “cool" students experiment with many school-related and extra-curricular activities.
"We have some of the best sports programs around. We have a good band," 6th grader Nick Schwitzgebel said.
Technology is big at St. Thomas More School. All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have iPods.
“The iPods are like a classroom in the pocket. They have many endless possibilities,” 8th grader Bradley Koblin said.
Students also use iPads, taking textbook learning to the next level. You’ll find first graders doing their lessons on computers and teachers using smart boards in all the classrooms.
Incorporating worship, service and academics helps to make St. Thomas More a “Cool School.”
