MACEDONIA, OH — Pet adoption volunteers believe two young girls took off with a black lab at an adoption event Saturday afternoon.

Volunteers say they noticed the girls acting suspicious in the PETCO store on Aurora Road.

Volunteers were filling out adoption paperwork when they noticed a two-year-old black lab, Raya, missing from her crate.

Canine Lifeline holds the adoption event every Saturday and volunteers say this is the first time this has happened.

“Yeah, it’s devastating,” said Barbe Wible, a volunteer. “We care for these dogs immensely, as all rescue groups do. We have saved this dog from euthanasia at a shelter and had a wonderful home for her, and for somebody to come in and take her, we don’t know what for. Do they want a dog? What are they going to do with her? We just want this dog back.”

Volunteers with Canine Lifeline believe the suspects are females between 16 and 20-years-old.

They ask that anyone with information contact the Macedonia Police Department.
