Shaker Heights RB Ramses Owens sprints past the University School defense for a touchdown in the Red Raiders' 54-27 win.

HUNTING VALLEY — Shaker Heights’ high-powered offense picked up right where it left off last season, scoring 40 points in the first half and cruising to a 54-27 road win over University School in the season opener.

Talented tailback Ramses Owens only ran the ball eight times, but he shredded the Preppers’ defense for 175-yards and three touchdowns.

Shaker’s new signal caller Brian Jones was very efficient in his first start, completing 9 of 11 passes for 168-yards and two touchdowns.

Two-way star Odell Spencer had two catches for 56-yards and also returned an interception 96-yards for a touchdown.

University School QB John Gannon threw for one touchdown and ran for another in the loss.

Shaker Heights (1-0) hosts Cleveland JFK (0-1) next Saturday, while University School (0-1) travels to Bedford (1-0) on Friday night.
