SOLON, Ohio-- Solon is known as a safe, family-friendly suburb, so news that a possible groper is on the loose is shocking to residents.
“It’s safe out here,” Solon resident, Irene White, said.
“I know the city and the police are going to be all over this,” the victim’s neighbor, Scott Stuart, said, adding he has lived in Solon for 48 years and has never had any problems.
According to police reports, either the same man struck two times, or there are two different gropers who each struck once.
But both times, it was the same victim: a 70-year-old woman.
She told police a strange man groped her on Park East Drive, once in early May and again on August 8.
In one instance, the woman told police she was in the foyer getting her mail when the man ran into the lobby, groped her and then ran off.
The other time, she told police she was trying to unlock the door to the apartment building when the man ran up and grabbed her around the waist.
She told police that she screamed and he ran off into the adjacent woods.
Police said they do not know if it’s the same man. The woman told police he had a hoodie on and couldn’t see his face the second time.
“It’s either random, or it’s somebody who lives in the neighborhood who is just not well, obviously,” shocked Solon resident, Jeannine Marko, said.
Solon police said they have stepped up patrols in the area.
Police want women in the area to be aware of their surroundings, especially at night.
They want anyone with information about these cases to give their detectives a call at (440) 248-1234.
