TALLMADGE, Ohio — An investigation continued Monday after the bodies of two people were found in a wooded area behind a home in Tallmadge.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office enlisted the services of an anthropologist to assist with the identification because the bodies were so decomposed.

They were discovered Saturday afternoon in a wooded area about 100 yards behind a home in the 500 block of Stone Creek Drive.

Lieutenant Ron Williams told Fox 8 officials had been investigating a missing persons case with ‘suspicious circumstances’ involving people at that address.

Neighbors told Fox 8 that a woman and young son who live at the home hadn’t been seen for a few weeks.

Police explained that the discovery of the remains happened on Saturday after the woman’s concerned mother went to the home. They said she was walking around in the back woods and smelled a foul odor, then called police immediately.

Neighbors were shocked and saddened by the news.

“It was a shocker for me. I couldn’t imagine something happening in this type of area. You hear about it on the news all of the time, but you never know what to think until it happens two doors down from you,” said Dylan Bashlor, who lives nearby.

“It’s shocking because it is a quiet neighborhood, nothing like that really goes on,” said Nefertitia Phairr, who works nearby.

“It’s ridiculous, this world is something else,” she went on.

The cause of death has not been determined.

Police tell Fox 8 News they cannot say if the recent missing persons case and the found remains are related. They also haven’t disclosed if anyone is in custody at this time.
