BEDFORD, Ohio — One of 11 churches reopened after being shut down due to budget and attendance concerns is celebrating its first birthday.

St. Mary of Bedford Church is celebrating the anniversary on Thursday, August 15. The congregation is holding a 7 p.m. mass, preceded by a procession beginning on the corner of Northfield Road.

The church held its first mass since being closed in July 2012, and pastor Father Dan Begin was officially installed on August 15, 2012 in time for the Feast of Assumption.

The church was reopened by a decree from the Vatican.
