PERRY, Ohio — A motorcycle ride is being held to honor a local organ recipient’s medical milestone.

The Mike Friedel Memorial Bike Run is held each year to support local organ recipients successfully completing their medical treatment. It will be held on Saturday, August 24, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in honor of Terry Watkins.

Mike Friedel was a friend of Terry Watkins and her family, and an organ donor.

Watkins, 51, was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis due to alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a genetic disorder in which the body does not produce enough protein to protect the liver, in 2009. Money raised during the motorcycle run will help Watkins pay for her treatments, which costs approximately $525,000.

The ride will take place at Mr. Lee’s located at 3564 South Ridge Road in Perry. Admission is $15 per rider, and $5 per non-riders. Food will be provided, along with a raffle, 50/50 raffle, a Chinese Auction and live entertainment.

To make a donation, send  funds to the NFT Ohio Transplant Fund, 5350 Poplar Avenue, Suite 430, Memphis, Tennessee 38119 and write “in honor of Terri Watkins” on the memo line.
