CANTON, Ohio-- Jades Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue shelter in Canton, Ohio.
But a phone call Saturday will haunt owner, Diane Aquino, forever.
"A lady said there was a dog in water and it was thrown over a bridge and wondered if we could come out,” said Aquino.
Aquino says she went to the bridge at the intersection of Whipple and Wise and there was the dog in a culvert.
“She said she was approached by a gentleman who said he saw someone in a white Ford Mustang throw the dog over the bridge,” said Aquino.
Aquino said the fall paralyzed the dog from his waist down as it lay helplessly in the water.
“I just kept rubbing him because he was ice cold. And he kept doing a swimming motion with his front paws. He just kept doing that. He must have been down there for 30 minutes,” said Aquino.
Rescuers rushed the dog to an area hospital where vets tried to save him. But unfortunately, the injuries were too severe.
“The dog had a broken back, punctured lung, head trauma; which was causing him to have seizures. They said at this point, it would be best if we put him down,” said Aquino.
According to Jades Rescue’s Facebook page, about a $1,000 dollar reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Jackson Township police.
