CLEVELAND — Over 1,200 people braved the rainy weather Saturday for the 8th Annual Zoo Walk and 5K Run at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, benefiting ‘Wigs for Kids.’

Kids and adults got a new hairdo to help provide wigs to sick children.

Darian Burkett, 9, said this is the first time she has ever had a haircut.

“It’s great to donate your hair to someone who doesn’t have hair, because that’s just right for people. Donating hair means you’re doing a good thing for people who don’t have hair,” said Darian.

Guests at Saturday’s event also got a special surprise from superheros! Volunteers dressed in costumes and posed with participants of all ages for free in exchange for donations to ‘Wigs for Kids.’
