My Town: 76th Annual All-American Soap Box Derby

AKRON, Ohio — Hundreds of soap box derby racers and their families are making their way to Akron for the 76th Annual FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby.

The races will take place on Saturday, July 27, at Derby Downs, but not before a week filled with parades, festivities, rally racing, an alumni reception on Friday, July 26, and more.

The National Super Kids Classic for special needs racers will take place Friday, July 26 at 10 a.m. at Derby Downs.

Opening ceremonies for the races will begin at 8 a.m. on race day, and racing will begin at 8:30 a.m. featuring drivers from the U.S., Canada, Japan and New Zealand.

Each racer earns the rights to compete by winning racing in their home communities or gaining racing points from competitions.

Winners in three categories have the opportunity to win a combined $30,000 in scholarships.
