Tigers Trounce Tribe, 7-0
CLEVELAND– The Indians returned to Progressive Field from a very successful road trip and somehow forgot to bring their bats.
It’s unlikely the bats were lost in transit; it’s just that the ones they employed on Friday night against Rick Porcello and the Tigers were ineffective.
Porcello easily outdueled Indians starter Justin Masterson in gaining the 7-0 victory. Masterson only lasted into the 5th inning. A big contrast to his last outing that featured a complete game shutout. Masterson pitched 4 and two thirds innings and allowed 7 hits and 6 runs to take the loss. He is now 10-7.
Porcello went 7 solid innings and scattered 5 hits. He struck out 6 batters while not allowing a run.
The Tigers got to Masterson in the second as Ramon Santiago delivered a 2-run base hit.
An inning later, Miguel Cabrera drove in the third run with a single.
Former Indians taunted their old team in the 5th. Victor Martinez drove in the fourth run of the game and Jhonny Peralta delivered a 2-run double to deep right center.
In the 7th inning, Martinez ended the Detroit scoring by spanking a RBI single.
The Indians put 2 men on base in the ninth inning before Lonnie Chisenhall made the final out for the Tigers 7-0 win.
The Indians and Tigers meet again on Saturday afternoon.
