MANSFIELD, Ohio -- A prison inmate remains at large after escaping from the Mansfield Correctional Institution Wednesday evening.

Officials with the prison and the Ohio State Highway Patrol held a press conference Thursday afternoon asking anyone with information on James Myers to call 911.

Richland County Sheriff deputies and Mansfield police have been assisting in the manhunt. The patrol also used their helicopter to fly over the wooded area behind the prison.

In 2010, Myers was convicted of kidnapping and raping a Summit County woman. He is serving a 40-year prison sentence. Police said they are now providing protection at the woman's home.

Officials would not give details of the escape, but said Myers did work in the maintenance department of the prison.

They would not confirm if he used a ladder to get over one of the fences that surrounds the prison.

They said he is considered dangerous and no one should attempt to apprehend him alone.

Anyone with information should call police.
