CLEVELAND- Lions, tigers, bears and vegetables oh my!
It is not where you expect to see FOX 8 on a daily basis, but we have set up shop at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
Throughout the summer, you can see our FOX 8 garden located directly across from the Primate Cat and Aquatic Building near the top of the zoo.
Right in front of our garden is the tortoise yard and pond that will also be reaping the benefits.
Christopher Lowe, horticulture manager at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo tells FOX 8, "The food that the tortoises eat on a daily basis involve lettuce, apples and carrots. Those things will be coming from this garden and supplied for their daily diets."
The hope for the garden is that it not only looks appealing, but that it also promotes good eating habits.
"The garden itself is going to be a mix of vegetables and display annuals. We will be able to talk about nutrition and healthy eating lifestyles," said Lowe.
Petitti's Garden Centers donated all the plants for the new FOX 8 garden at the zoo. AJ Petitti said they wanted to take part so people could see a proper garden and how well it is laid out. "You can learn a lot on the spacing, the kind of plants, how to position them in your own yard," Petitti said.
