MILAN TWP., Ohio — Erie County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a body burning in a vehicle at Milan Wildlife Area Sunday morning.

According to Sheriff Paul Sigsworth, a passing driver saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the area off Lovers Lane around 6 a.m. As the driver moved closer, said Sigsworth, he realized it was coming from a fully engulfed vehicle.

When deputies arrived, they found a badly burned and unrecognizable person dead inside.

Erie County officials are investigating the death as a possible suicide, according to Det. Sgt. Dennis Papineau with the Erie County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities said they were able to salvage a license plate and trace it back to a home in Norwalk where they found a suicide note.

Erie County deputies are still investigating.
