CLEVELAND -- It's a question a lot of people are asking, but will probably never get the answer to.

Why would a priest steal from his own church?

Andre Matthews, 54,  was once a reverend at St. Helena Church in Cleveland. He now faces prison time for theft and money laundering.

Prosecutors believe Matthews stole $176,000 over a 6-year period of time. Investigators said some of the money stolen was actually raised during Bingo nights at the church.

Matthews plead guilty in court last week.

Each of his charges carries up to three years behind bars.

Matthews will be sentenced on July 17.
