Officer Named In Warehouse District Shooting

CLEVELAND, OH — The Cleveland Division of Police has now identified the officer who was involved in a shooting in the Warehouse District early Sunday morning that left a man shot in the chest.

Cleveland Police Public Information Officer Sergeant Sammy Morris identifies Patrol Officer Vincent Montague as the officer involved.

The five-year officer is assigned to the Third District Downtown Services Unit.

The incident occurred near West 6th Street and St. Clair Avenue at 2:30 a.m. Sunday when Montague attempted to stop a motorist driving down a closed street.

The driver and Montague were engaged in a brief confrontation when the officer’s weapon discharged.

The driver taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

According to departmental policy, the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.

The Police Department’s Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team is investigating.
