FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Slapping his lawyer on the backside landed him in jail.  An apology earned his freedom.

Former NFL player Chad Johnson was released from a Florida jail Monday after spending a week behind bars.

Johnson originally faced a 30-day sentence after causing laughter in court when he slapped his lawyer on the behind for a job well done.

The attorney had successfully bargained a plea deal for Johnson’s probation violation in a domestic violence case, but the love tap killed the deal.

Johnson apologized to Judge Kathleen McHugh for disrespecting the court.
