CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland police said a woman was shot after trying to help someone who had been run off the road on the city’s east side early Sunday.

According to police, dispatch received a call about 4:30 a.m. for a man who was reportedly forced off the road at East 146th Street and Miles Avenue.

While police were on their way to the location, shots were reported fired. When police arrived, they found a yellow Grand Prix that had hit a pole and a female with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The female victim was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, and the driver of the car was taken to Marymount Hospital.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the car had been involved in an altercation at the Premier Nightclub. After leaving the club, his vehicle was hit by a dark-colored minivan, according to police, causing him to hit a pole.

The female victim was in her home, heard the crash and went to assist the male, said police. That’s when shots were fired at the male’s vehicle, hitting her once in the leg.

No arrests have been made.
