Man Charged in Girlfriend’s Death; Vigil Held

ELYRIA, Ohio — A vigil was being held Sunday evening in memory of Lauren Moore, a woman whom police say died at the hands of her live-in boyfriend.

The Lorain County Coroner’s Office confirmed to Fox 8 News that Moore, 26, died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck.

Her body was discovered Thursday afternoon in a rear bedroom of a Washington Avenue home.

Vernon Shallenberger, 27, was later arrested and charged with one count of murder.

Geri Cahill-Miller, the president and founder of the Purple Lotus Project, said the organization will hold the vigil for Moore in Elyria at 7 p.m.

It will take place at 131 Court Street, also known as Ely Square.

According to its website, “the Purple Lotus Project is an Ohio non-profit organization that was created to provide education, transition and safety resources to men, women, teens, children and animals affected by domestic violence and abuse.”
