(CNN) -- A woman in India spent 19 years in jail despite being granted bail in 1994.
Vijay Kumari had been sentenced to life in prison four years earlier -- in 1990 -- on murder charges. The court granted her bail on appeal, but she was never told the news.
Even if she had been, Kumari would have needed 5,000 rupees, or $160, for bail.
While in jail, she gave birth to her son, Kanhiaya, and he lived there until he was 6. He grew up wanting to make enough money to bail his mother out.
So he got a job in a garment factory and worked day and night.
Three weeks ago, his wish came true, and he got his mother released.
