(CNN) — The attorney for convicted killer Joran van der Sloot tells CNN his client is engaged to a Peruvian woman.

The attorney says they are working to get the final paperwork for the marriage.

He expects the couple to marry in about two weeks.

They reportedly met through an inmate.

Joran van der Sloot is serving a 28-year prison sentence for the murder of Stephany Flores-Reamirez in June 2010.

He pleaded guilty to the charges in a Peruvian court, saying he regretted his actions.

Also in 2010, Van der Sloot was indicted by a federal grand jury in the U.S. for wire fraud and extortion in relation to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

Holloway vanished in Aruba in 2005.
