BOSTON — The Indians dodged raindrops and baseballs in Boston on Friday night as the home team took advantage of Justin Masterson and the bullpen en route to an 8-1 victory.

Masterson allowed five runs in six innings on the soggy mound at Fenway Park. He was tagged with his third loss of the season.

Boston took a 3-0 lead in the second inning when Mike Carp ripped a homer with two men on base.

A throwing error gave the Tribe a run in the 3rd inning, but Boston salted things away in the 6th and 7th innings.

Mike Napoli grounded into a double play which plated the fourth run in the 6th inning.

Jacoby Ellsbury singled in two runs for a 6-1 in the 7th and Dustin Pedroia brought home two more runs for the 8-1 lead.

John Lackey went seven innings and allowed only two hits and one unearned run to notch the victory.

The same two teams play on Saturday.
