CLEVELAND -- There were smiles and hugs, stories and memories, lots of food and even a little dancing, all while the feeling of 'goodbye' hung in the air.

Fox 8 News threw a retirement reception for Wilma Smith just hours before her final newscast after a legendary career in Northeast Ohio.

As managers and distinguished guests spoke, they described Wilma as a woman of professionalism and grace.  Fox 8 Managing Editor Toni Garbo said in one word, Wilma is "home."

Wilma has been an icon in the Cleveland area for decades, and the impact she made will linger in our station and in homes across the viewing area for years to come.

During her last moments on the air, Wilma said it best.  "Make it a good life."

Wilma, we wish you the best on your next journey, and thank you for the journey you've shared with all of us.
