Indians Sweep A’s with 9-2 Win
CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Indians continued their hot streak on Thursday afternoon, beating the Oakland A’s 9-2 to complete a four-game sweep. With the win, the Indians have earned victories in 10 of their last 11 games.
Scott Kazmir continued the club’s strong string of starting pitching. He went 6 innings, allowed 5 hits and one earned run. He struck out 10 batters.
The Indians banged out 12 hits in plating the 9 runs. Michael Brantley, Drew Stubbs and Mark Reynolds had 2 hits apiece in the win. Reynolds knocked his 11th homer of the season, which is the American League lead.
The club hit 3 homers on the sun-splashed afternoon at Progressive Field. Jason Kipnis hit a 2 run homer in the 1st inning to get the scoring underway. Cleveland scored 3 more in the 2nd inning as Yan Gomes doubled in Reynolds. Drew Stubbs added an RBI single and Kipnis hit a sacrifice fly.
Nick Swisher hit a solo homer in the 3rd inning for a 6-0 lead. The team rounded out its scoring in the 5th inning when Jason Giambi drove home Asdrubal Cabrera with a single and Reynolds brought Giambi home with his 11th homer of the season.
The victory brought the Indians to four games above .500 at 18-14.
