Netflix Dropping More Than 1,800 Movies
About 2,000 movies will be removed from Netflix Wednesday, including many popular titles, according to The Huffington Post.
Netflix’s licensing deal with major studios such as MGM, Universal and Warner Bros. expires Wednesday May 1.
The company says its goal is to be an “expert programmer” rather than a “broad distributor” of videos. While Netflix is dropping about 2,000 movie titles, such as over a dozen seasons of ‘South Park’ and classic James Bond films, it is adding 500 movies to its database.
The company says it switches out titles all the time, and the vast majority of movies that expire Wednesday are older features. Netflix lost a bulk of popular movies when its deal with Starz expired in 2012.
