Overdosing on Vitamins

Did you know you can overdose on vitamins? We welcomed Dr. Valerie Powers from Southwest General to give us some helpful tips.

So which vitamins in supplements have a potential danger?

  • Fat Soluble Vitamins:  A, D, E, K
  • All vitamins for children, especially those containing IRON (Eg: prenatal vitamins).

 

What might it be helpful to know about taking supplements or alternative medications?

  •  Vitamin Supplements are not regulated the same as pharmaceutical medications.  A company can decide to undergo a Voluntary testing and auditing program that is performed by the USP (US Pharmacopeial Convention).  These supplements will have the USP logo prominently displayed on the label.  The labs are evaluated to determine if the supplement:

International Children’s Festival

It’s a family affair at Playhouse Square! Next weekend is the fourth annual International Children’s Festival. Cindi Szymanski from Playhouse Square joined David with all the details.

Kids can see great shows such as “Grug,” “The Girl Who Forgot to Sing Badly,” “ZooZoo,” and “The Adventures of Alvin Sputnick.” Plus, there’s tons of free activities including crafts, face painting, short films, and the PNC Mobile Learning Adventure.
