SALT CREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 5-year-old riding in an Amish buggy was seriously hurt in a Wayne County crash, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

An investigation found a 19-year-old in a GMC Jimmy truck was headed eastbound on CR-2 in Salt Creek Township around 11:10 a.m. Saturday.

When the truck crested a hill, it hit the buggy from behind, forcing it off the right side of the road.

The truck then veered into the westbound lane and struck another car, forcing it off the road.

The 5-year-old in the buggy was taken to Wooster Community Hospital with serious injuries, then taken to Akron Children’s Hospital by life flight.

The drivers of both vehicles and a 9-year-old inside the buggy were treated at the scene.

The driver of the Amish buggy was not hurt.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said speed and driver inattention were factors in the crash.
