AKRON, Ohio — The man charged in connection with the murder of a New Franklin couple earlier this month was arraigned in Summit County Common Pleas Court Wednesday morning.

A not-guilty plea was entered on behalf of 18-year-old Shawn Ford for aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and grand theft. A judge set bond at $1 million.

Ford is accused of using a sledgehammer to kill his girlfriend’s parents, Jeffrey and Margaret Schobert. Their bodies were found by construction workers three weeks ago in the bedroom of their Rex Lake Drive home.

Ford also faces a felonious assault charge for attacking his girlfriend, Chelsea Schobert, last month. Chelsea was in the hospital at the time of her parents’ murders.

Ford has another court appearance on May 7.
