MEDINA, Ohio–The Medina City School District Board of Education chose long-time principal Dave Knight to serve as interim superintendent.

Superintendent Dr. Randy Stepp was placed on paid administrative leave earlier this month.

The board’s actions were described as “standard procedure,” as the district enlists help from the “auditor of state” to conduct an investigation into financial transactions that relate to the district’s educational service center account.

The board also explained Dr. Stepp’s leave is not a disciplinary action or a finding of wrongdoing on his part.

To provide leadership in the meantime, the board selected Mr. Knight. He served as principal of Fenn Elementary School until he retired in 2011.

His appointment as interim superintendent begins Wednesday.
