AP Twitter Account Hacked

A tweet from The Associated Press caused panic Tuesday afternoon.

The tweet read “Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured.”

Moments later, The Associated Press’ corporate communications account clarified the account was hacked.

The Associated Press used other Twitter handles and media outlets to confirm the fake tweet. The AP later announced it would be suspending its Twitter account in response to the hacking.

The Syrian Electronic Army claimed responsibility for the attack, according to The Huffington Post.

Twitter accounts for CBS News including ’60 Minutes,’ ’48 Minutes’ and CBS Denver were hacked last week. The Syrian Electronic Army was also reportedly responsible for those attacks.
