WATERTOWN, Mass. (CNN) -- Massachusetts State Police have released helicopter video taken in the minutes prior to the arrest of the surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect.

The video shows the boat where 19-year-old Dzhokar Tsarnaev surrendered to police Friday night. The thermal images show the suspect curled up inside the boat.

The image of the boat and yard appear white. Police said the dark figure inside the vessel is the suspect.

Police used the video to figure out where the suspect was as they were trying to decide how to get him out of the boat.

A Watertown homeowner alerted authorities to the suspect's location after noticing a strap was cut on his boat covering Friday. He also saw blood.
