Red Sox Sweep Indians in 3-Game Series

CLEVELAND– Jon Lester went 7 strong innings in leading the Boston Red Sox to a 6-3 win over the Cleveland Indians and a sweep of their 3-game series on Thursday night.

Lester allowed 4 hits and two earned runs in the victory as two relievers helped seal the win. Zach McAllister went 5 innings and absorbed the loss, giving up 3 earned runs and 3 walks.

The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead on a Daniel Nava RBI single in the second inning.  The Tribe answered in the bottom of the same frame as Mike Aviles grounded out to third, and Mark Reynolds scored.

Boston got single runs in the 4th and 5th innings to make it a 3-1 ball game.  The Indians scored in the bottom of the fifth on a Drew Stubbs ground out.

Boston padded its lead in the 7th inning as Mike Napoli singled to right, scoring Jacoby Ellsbury to make it 4-2. Nava made it 5-2 with a sacrifice fly and later that inning Mike Carp singled in the 6th run.

Cleveland added a run in the 8th inning on a Carlos Santana RBI double.

Cleveland dropped to 5-9 on the season. They have only 2 home wins in 8 tries this season.
