MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — A Kirtland man has been indicted on several charges after police said he assaulted two nurses and a patient at Hillcrest Hospital.

Andrew John Margheret, 28, faces three counts of assault and charges of burglary and trespassing in the incident, which happened April 3 around 1:30 p.m.

According to police, witnesses said the suspect entered the hospital and slipped through a door to the Intensive Care Unit as a doctor was walking in.

Police said he then entered the room of a 72-year-old female patient. Reports state that he grabbed her arm and tried to remove her oxygen mask.

Two nurses received minor injuries when they heard the commotion and attempted to restrain him, according to reports. One nurse was treated for a bloody lip and multiple scratches.

When police arrived, the suspect told them he was trying to save the patient because she was being held against her will.

Police, however, said he was making statements that didn’t make sense, and he didn’t appear to know the patient involved.

Hillcrest Hospital released the following statement in the incident:

“The safety of our patients, visitors and employees is a priority we take seriously. We commend the immediate response of our employees and are fully cooperating with the investigation.”

Margheret will appear in court for an arraignment April 22.
