Bedford Crash Suspect Has Criminal Past

BEDFORD, Ohio — A man facing charges in connection with last week’s crash that killed a pregnant mother and her two children is no stranger to police.

According to court records in Bedford and Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court, 48-year-old Eric Calhoun has faced numerous charges dating back 22 years.

Calhoun is now being held on $1,000,000 bond.  Police say his truck slammed into a car driven by 30-year-old Maria Thorpe Friday night.

His legal troubles started in 1991 when he was arrested for drug charges.  The following year, he was arrested again on drug charges and sentenced to a year in prison.

In 1995, he was back in court, and pleaded guilty to trafficking in drugs and sent to prison for a year.

In 1999, he found himself back in Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court. This time, for a charge of trafficking in cocaine. He was sentenced to nine months in prison.

In 2005, he was in court on drug and weapons charges. He was sent back to prison for 10 months.

He has also been arrested for several traffic charges.
