CLEVELAND, Ohio -- We had such an overwhelming response to our St. Jude Dream home campaign. We raised $800,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and many lives will be touched by this donation.
During our campaign, we discovered that the wife of a FOX 8 employee was a St. Jude child.
Chris Moriarty is a technician for FOX 8, and his wife, Michelle, was a former St. Jude patient.
Michelle was diagnosed with acute leukemia when she was 10 years old.
Michelle said she was told, "I only had a few more weeks to basically live."
Thankfully, Michelle responded to treatment, and despite a relapse, she was considered completely cured 12 years later.
"My family didn't have to pay a penny to St. Jude," Michelle said.
Her father was self-employed, and if it wasn't for St. Jude Michelle said her family would have lost everything.
Instead, Michelle gained everything, including her life back.
Recently Michelle returned to St. Jude where doctors performed many tests. They want to see if treatments leave long-term effects.
Michelle and Chris have two beautiful boys and are grateful for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the great support from our viewers for our dream home campaign.
If you are one of the lucky ticket holders to the Fox 8 St. Jude Dream home, the drawing for all the prizes will be held on June 20.
If you didn't get a chance to buy that ticket, you can still win a prize.
Open houses begin on May 4 and will be held every weekend leading up to the drawing. If you attend an open house, you are entered into a drawing for $10,000 in La-Z-Boy furniture.
And this ticket is free; you don't have to pay for it. All you have to do is tour the home which will have furniture in it from La-Z-Boy.
The address for the dream home is 4231 Queens Gate, Avon, Ohio 44011. We will have more information on the open houses coming up later in the month.
