Troopers: Drunken Driver Hits Van, Pedestrian

LEROY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — An accused drunken driver is being held in jail after officials say he struck a van then a pedestrian Wednesday night.

It happened just before 10 p.m. in front of the Capps Tavern on State Route 86 in LeRoy Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said 42-year-old Douglas Loveland struck a van that was pulling out of a restaurant parking lot, overcorrected, then drove off the left side of the road and hit a man who had stopped to help.

The occupants of the van were not injured. The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.

Loveland was arrested at the scene. He’s charged with OVI , failure to control, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and aggravated vehicular assault.

He’s being held in the Lake County Jail.
