AKRON, Ohio — Power has been restored to more than 1,200 homes in Akron that were in the dark after a crash early Thursday morning.

Akron police say the accident happened shortly before 3 a.m. when a woman with a medical issue crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of E. Cuyahoga Falls Avenue and Clifton Avenue.

She is reportedly in stable condition at a local hospital.

Several transformers in the area were blown out when the crash occurred. FirstEnergy crews are on the scene replacing the downed pole and wires.

The clean-up process could take several hours, police say. Motorists should avoid the affected area.
