1 Seriously Hurt in Suspected Drunk Driving Crash

MASSILLON, Ohio — One person was seriously injured in a one-car crash in Lawrence Township in Stark County early Sunday.

Speed and alcohol are factors in the crash, according to the Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to reports, the crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. on Erie Avenue near Bonham Avenue .

Corey R. Ramey, 22, of Massillon, was driving a tan 2012 Chevrolet Cruze north on Erie Avenue, when he went off the east side of the road and hit a utility pole. The car overturned and came to rest in a tree, according to reports.

Nathan R. Richards, 22, of North Lawrence; Brittany R. Winter, 22, of Massillon; and Karl H. Prusser, 23, of Massillon, were also in the vehicle.

Ramey, Winter and Prusser were taken to Affinity Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries.

Richards was taken by medical helicopter to Akron City Hospital with serious injuries.

Reports state that during the course of the investigation, Ramey was determined to be under the influence of alcohol, and he refused a blood test while being treated at the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the Massillon City Prosecutor’s Office for any charges.
