AKRON– Police said a so-called ‘apologetic’ hit-and-run driver that they arrested has been cleared.

Officers from the Akron Police Department Traffic Bureau arrested Shaune P. Chesney, 48, of Akron, for a hit-and-run.

Originally, police had said he was wanted for an incident on March 15 where someone struck a five-year-old boy with a car, while the child was crossing Goodhue Ave.

That driver stopped; asked the child if he was alright; then took off.

The child was transported to Akron Children’s Hospital and treated for a broken leg.

The initial investigation led officers to Chesney.

Now, another man- William Wilkes has been arrested for the crime. Police said Chesney has been cleared.
