My Town: Girl Scouts Hold Drive for Local Animal Shelter

WESTLAKE, Ohio — A local Girl Scout troop is holding their final supplies drive for the Berea Animal Shelter.

During their previous drive, Troop 70285 estimated they would collect 100 items for the shelter. The girls instead collected 496 items, and have set a goal to raise more than 1,000 items for the animals.

The drive will be held Saturday, March 23 at the Westlake Porter Public Library located at 27333 Center Ridge Road. The drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the following items are needed:

Ground canned cat food, non-canned dog food, deodorized litter, animal toys, rawhide bones, Milk Bone dog treats, medium and/or large dog treats, paper towels, toilet paper,  latex gloves, 30-gallon trash bags, 13-gallon kitchen bags, dishwasher detergent,  laundry detergent, bleach, dryer sheets, exercise gates/ play areas, plastic swimming pools, extra tall gates, first aid supplies, printer paper, postage stamps and a laptop computer.

The troop is also accepting gift cards from Target, Walmart, Petco, PetSmart, Pet Supplies Plus, Office Max and/or Staples.

Along with helping the hundreds of animals receiving care at the Berea Animal Shelter, the troop also hopes to earn the Silver Award for their efforts.
