AKRON– A man pleaded guilty to assaulting his neighbor with a power washer.

The Summit County prosecutor said Edwin J. Heatherly, 71, of Akron, was using a high-powered pressure washer to clean his grill on June 14.

Heatherly’s neighbor of 30 years became upset because the grime from the grill was coming over the fence onto his house.

The victim tried to get Heatherly’s attention, but was having trouble because the victim is deaf and mute. The victim then tried to get Heatherly’s attention by spraying a hose at him. That’s when Heatherly sprayed his power washer at the victim, cutting the victim’s hands, arms, chin, neck and the area behind his ear.

Heatherly’s wife called police.

When officers arrived, they found the victim in his yard, bleeding profusely from his face, arms and hands.

Heatherly was sentenced to six months in jail and one year probation. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim and he must pay the victim $43,000 in restitution.
