CLEVELAND — An internationally renowned muralist is visiting Cleveland with opportunities for local artists to perfect their craft.

Sankofa Fine Art Plus invited muralist Kent Twitchell to help restore and immortalize actress Ruby Dee’s portrait for the Fairfax community “Artovation” mural project at the Karamu House.

Dee, a Cleveland native, grew up in Harlem, New York City and has gone on to star in several critically acclaimed films and Broadway plays.

Twitchell is inviting seven to 10 local artists to learn his special mural painting technique. The artists will be selected by a jury from the Cleveland Institute of Art, the City of Cleveland Bureau of Cultural Arts Mural My Neighborhood Program and the Building Bridges Mural Program. The fee to participate is $25.

The 40-by-36 foot mural is scheduled to be installed from May 1-20.
