NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio — A fire caused nearly $150,000 in damages to a detached classroom at Manchester Middle School Monday.

The New Franklin Fire Department was called at 8:40 a.m. to reports of the fire at the school, 760 West Nimilsila Road.

The first fire units arrived within four minutes and found the fire involving the roof and one wall of a building located behind the main school. The building contained two classrooms.

The fire originated in a classroom that was vacant at the time, and it was discovered by two school staff members, according to firefighters.

The main building was not threatened, said firefighters.

The fire was brought under control by 8:55 a.m. Fire investigators determined the fire was caused by combustible wall materials installed too close to a heating unit.

No injuries were reported.
