OSHP Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting involving a Wooster police officer and a Highway Patrol trooper.

The OSHP says the officer and trooper made contact with a suspicious vehicle at 1315 Smithville-Western Road, just after 2 a.m. Sunday.

According to the press release, occupants in the vehicle accelerated into the yard and began driving toward the officers. That’s when officers fired shots at the vehicle.

Following the shooting, troopers say the vehicle drove off the right side of the road and into an embankment.

The driver, Stephen M. Thompson, 26, of Ashland, attempted to flee and resisted arrest while being put into custody. He was later taken to the Wayne County Justice Center.

Passenger Ryan Michael Porter, 24, of West Salem, was taken to Wooster Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injures. He was later transported to Akron General Hospital.
